MONTESSORI
The special characteristic of the Montessori method is to assist each child in helping him develop as fully as possible keeping in touch with his unique pattern of development. It was Dr. Maria Montessori’s goal to help each child develop within himself the foundation requisite for a lifetime of creative learning. The program and approach stresses the presentation of inherently attractive learning and discovery activities which will help the child develop positive attitudes toward himself, learning, books, school and his environment.
Dr. Maria Montessori believed that the child’s mind from birth through six years is quite different from the adult’s and labeled it as “;an absorbent mind”. The child effortlessly soaks in everything in his culture and environment. The Montessori preschool classroom is designed to be a“prepared environment”. A classroom consists of attractive, programmed, self-learning, educational materials that invite the child to examine, manipulate, discover and work with a variety of activities geared to his developmental needs.
The child is working at his own rate, he savors the keen inner-satisfaction of learning; which a genuine love for learning is acquired. Very young children experience “sensitive or critical periods” in which they learn more easily at any earlier or later period; early learning during the “need” periods is not only more efficient but likewise yields positive attitudes which is important in later learning.
